Letter to My Son ~ 1 Month

Sweet Boy. It's your mama. Happy Monthiversary.

I'm just sitting here thinking about how much my life has changed in the past month. You were born a month ago, doubling my number of children and exponentially increasing the love in this home. You made my sweet girl a big sister and you made all of us so happy.

We have gotten into a pretty good routine. You sleep, wake, eat, stay awake for a while, then get fussy and fall asleep. The cycle rarely deviates. You have been so good when we take you out & about. You sleep most of the time, even in the bright light (sun or florescent), even with loud noises. You most like to be in motion in the car. When we stop, even for a short time at a red light, you do NOT like it!

It took me a while to get used to nursing again. When people asked me how it was going, I would say, "He's better at it then I am." But it wasn't long until it all came back to me. Recently you had some trouble - you weren't nursing a whole session. You would nurse for a while and then unlatch and scream. I couldn't nurse you more and you wouldn't burp. You cried as if in pain, but nothing I did seemed to help. One of my on-line friends recommended patting your back while you nursed and that worked wonders. We haven't had any problems since.

Rachel has been an excellent big sister. When I ask her, she brings me things that I need and she likes to pat your back to help burp you. (She'll sing the song from Mickey Mouse Clubhouse: "Top, top, bottom, bottom, middle, middle, middle!") It seems that everyone asks how she's doing and I always say she's doing great. She loves you so much and is so happy to have you finally here.

We all waited a very long time to meet you, precious one, and as hard as it is to wake in the middle of the night, or to juggle two children and their needs, wants & demands, I am so happy that you are OUTSIDE of my tummy... and growing and developing each day.
