Charlie Horse!!!!

Last night Duncan and I went to see I Love You, Man. We went to bed pretty late and then at some point during the night, I felt a charlie horse coming on.

(According to Wiki, "The term 'charley horse' is also used to describe simple painful muscle cramps in the leg or foot, especially those that follow strenuous exercise. These muscle cramps can have many possible causes including hormonal imbalances, dehydration, low levels of potassium or calcium in the blood, side effects of medication, or more seriously, diseases such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and neuropathy. They are also a common complaint during pregnancy.")

So evidently it's spelled charlEY. Anyway.

I was doing okay keeping quiet and squatting on my right foot to stretch out my right calf muscle (it's ALWAYS my right calf muscle), when I decided I needed to try a different tactic. The last time Duncan's fam was all together (his sister, BIL, their 3 kids, his parents and us), we talked about what we do when we get charley horses. Duncan's sister said she walks around and seemed surprised that Duncan and I didn't do that.

So last night I thought, "It's worth a shot."

I jumped off the bed and started pacing, only to experience even MORE pain, to the point that I yelled, "GAH!" and peed my pants.

So I scurried to the bathroom, in excruciating pain, yelling out "GAH!" and peeing, until I sat on the toilet to empty my bladder, pain never ceasing, of course.

I made it back to the bed somehow and as Duncan took his turn in the bathroom, I clung to the side of the bed, unable to move. I felt like Clair in that episode of The Cosby Show.

Eventually I got back in bed and Duncan brought me some water and dry underwear. Finally, the charley horse moved on to greener pastures.

I'm trying to eat more bananas and drink more water. It's always a funny & interesting story to tell, the day after I get one of those things, but I'd rather not experience it ever again!
